Welcome to my website! Explore my nursing journey, experience, and professional growth.
Hello! I am Margaret Cha. I am currently a medsurg/ telemetry RN at Kaiser Permanente. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Biology graduate from UC Santa Cruz, and an ADN at Hartnell College. I am currently in my RN to BSN program at CSU San Marcos, expected to graduate in October 2026. My parents and I have immigrated from South Korea when I was 2 years old, and since then have lived in California. I grew up in Cupertino, CA, home of the Apple corporation.
Fun fact: My friends nicknamed me "Matcha" for two reasons. One of the reasons is because I absolutely love matcha-flavored desserts and drinks. The second reason is because the first letters of my first and last name sound like "Matcha".
My personal goal for the first semester was to journal everyday. I did not reach my goal of journaling everyday; however, I feel like I did meet my goal overall. The reason I wanted to journal every was to allow me to be creative, since that is the one element of my life that keeps me going. While I did not journal everyday, I was able to journal frequently. On top of journaling, I picked up an old hobby of digital drawing, specifically anime/ cartoon figures, and this did allow me to be creative.
For the second semester, I wanted to change my goal to be more intentional by finding effective ways to destress and reflect everyday. While journaling has been a helpful habit, I wanted to focus more on the self-care and growth aspect. During the second semester, my family and I have faced some hardships. As the eldest child of my family, I felt the need to help my parents to the best of my abilities. As a result, I was constantly having a bio-reaction. I realized the gravity of the situation and how it was affecting everything around me, and I found that reflecting at least once a week helped me maintain control of myself. I found that reflection also helps me grow professionally as well, especially when I reflect after a clinical day. Rerunning through the scene and mentally taking notes on how I can improve my care methods as well as applauding at how much I've grown has been a positive feature in my life.
Continuing on to the third semester, my personal goal was to be in a better financial situation and to be able to volunteer my time and money to different mental charities. In order to do this, I created my own small cosmetic business using my artistic and creative abilities. Although there is still a long way to go, I am extremely proud of my efforts as I have had over 400 sales in a span of 5 months without any assistance. I became my own marketing team, product photographer, website designer, etc. I was also able to donate a considerable amount of the profits to mental health organizations, such as NAMI, the Trevor Project, and Active Minds. My professional goal is to hone my critical thinking skills as well as my nursing skills, such as IV insertion. As a nurse, we constantly have to think about interventions and actions that we can take as a nurse to help our clients. One of my fear is not being able to be useful or helpful in case of an emergency. One of the things that can help me prepare is to know what is priority. I will need to apply the concept of the ABCs, and be able to look at the client's lab values and determine whether or not to administer medications. During my clinical, I am able to show my skillset as a nurse by being able to competently take care of my clients and discuss their conditions as well as their care plan.
