Caring

While this experience allowed me to help a patient, it was disheartening to see how patients can be easily neglected in the hospital setting. The nurse I was assigned to simply told me that the patient refused after trying once, but I felt like that was not the right course of action. As a result, I allowed the patient to feel comfortable with me. The patient was on chemotherapy and had difficulty doing tasks by themselves, so I stayed until I saw that the patient ate her meal. I also helped the patient with oral care. One of my nursing philosophies is to be compassionate and kind, so I felt gratified knowing that I stayed true to my values.
