Focused Respiratory Assessment Skill
Since we learned how to do the focused respiratory assessment, I believe that I have significantly improved. During the 2nd year of nursing (3rd and 4th semesters), we emphasized how important it is to for us to prioritize care and focus on the ABCs. I am now able to perform focused respiratory assessment as well as know what sounds and symptoms to watch for as I assess my clients.
Venipuncture Assessment
We learned how to insert an IV during the second semester, but my first opportunity to put this into practice was during the fourth semester. I had an amazing out-rotation at DI, which gave me plenty of opportunities to insert an IV (all successfully on the first try). It was an incredible experience to put the skills I learned in school into practice and being able to successfully perform them.
